1. Historical Streetscape Rejuvenated
In October 2025, Fengyi Street, the historic core of Zhaotong Ancient City, completed a comprehensive streetscape enhancement project. Traditional wooden shops along the street have been meticulously restored, reviving the architectural style of the Ming and Qing dynasties with grey tiles, whitewashed walls, and carved windows—echoing its past glory as a bustling trade hub on the Yunnan-Sichuan corridor.
2. Cultural Tourism Drives Revival
The revitalized Fengyi Street now features intangible cultural heritage exhibitions, local teahouses, and creative workshops. Regular “Ancient City Night Markets” and folk performances have drawn large crowds. According to the Zhaotong Municipal Culture and Tourism Bureau, the street averaged over 8,000 daily visitors during the National Day holiday, a 45% year-on-year increase.
3. Smart Tour Guidance Launched
To enhance visitor experience, smart information kiosks and AR (augmented reality) scanning guides have been installed. Tourists can use their smartphones to "travel back" to Qing-era scenes and immerse themselves in the history of Zhaotong’s caravan trade and salt-rice commerce.
