During the 2025 National Day holiday, Zhaotong hosted its first Caravan Culture Festival. A live “Caravan Enters the City” parade featured dozens of mules carrying salt and tea through Fengyi Street, reviving the bustling trade between Yunnan and Sichuan during the Ming and Qing dynasties.

2. Diverse Cultural Programs
The festival included a caravan food market (featuring cured meat and trail rations), exhibitions of pack saddles, folk song competitions, and academic lectures on “Wuchidao and Ethnic Exchange in Southwest China.”

3. Building an Annual Cultural Brand
Organizers announced the event will become annual and may apply for provincial intangible cultural heritage status to strengthen Zhaotong’s cultural identity.
